“ Der Ernst Neumann Preis wurde (erstmals) 1995 verliehen im Rahmen des
„24th Meetings of the International Society for Experimental Hematology vom 27.8.1995 – 30.8.1995 in Düsseldorf/ Germany“ an Prof. Dr.med Donald Metcalf, Hämatologe aus Australien.
Der Preis , mit 10.000,- US $ dotiert, wurde von den Firmen Amgen und Roche gestiftet. Prof. Metcalf erhielt den Preis in Anerkennung seiner in der Hämatologie geleisteten Pionierarbeiten, heißt es in der Laudatio. Auf der Medaille (in Gold), die dem Preisträger überreicht wurde, ist der Königsberger Pathologe Ernst Neumann (1834 -1918) abgebildet”.
